When life hits the reset button

I’ve been through a once-in-a-lifetime Pluto transit and here’s what happened...

I'll be honest, even as someone who lives and breathes astrology, I didn't know what a Pluto transit to the midheaven (our true calling) really meant. I knew that it was probably going to be intense, perhaps even dramatic, but there was nothing about it in books or online apart from pretty generic stuff such as ‘a change in career direction’, blah, blah, blah. It's one of those transits that only when you experience it do you really understand it.

However, two years ago, the universe should have slipped a demolition notice under my door saying “Everything you thought you were building? Yeah, it’s time to rebuild it properly” and over the next two years, I had 3 exact ‘hits’ of this transit... think of it like three waves reshaping the same shoreline. And here's what happened in real life, no astrology knowledge needed.

  • I closed my shop in Wimborne – it had been my dream (it now seems from another lifetime) – a full, undeniable ending

  • We lost my father-in-law

  • We sold our house, most of our belongings, and moved into a tent and then a caravan

  • We cleared our debt

  • My husband got a job abroad

  • We bought a business

Somehow through all of the mess and the madness, my entire life direction reset. If you’re wondering, ‘Is that normal?’ it is for Pluto yes, as its speciality is taking you down to the studs so you can rebuild with intention instead of habit. I guess what surprised me the most wasn’t the intensity; it was the clarity that followed. You see, it’s then that Pluto gives you the rebirth, only after the old skin has burned away.

We are now planning a life split between the Caymans and the UK, a version of reality that would have sounded like someone else's fantasy two years ago. We bought a lodge in the UK – that all-important base – and are nurturing a business that can be run from a laptop anywhere in the world. A business that allows creativity and authenticity.

People who think astrology is woo woo or total nonsense genuinely make me laugh, not in a mean way, more in a ‘you’ve got no idea how ancient and grounded this actually is’ kind of way. We’ve been reading the sky for thousands of years! Before electricity, before calendars, humans tracked the movement of the planets because they noticed those movements synced with tides, seasons and harvests and also with the turning points in people’s lives. Energy exists whether you roll your eyes at it or not, and when you get hit with a Pluto transit, trust me, you don't need to believe in anything. You feel it. It’s the cosmic equivalent of being dragged through a mud bath and coming out the other side raw and somehow more you.

So, if you’re going through a season where everything feels like it’s falling apart. Maybe it’s not falling, maybe it’s shedding, maybe it’s your future self trying to break through, and when Pluto comes for you, not necessarily on your natal midheaven but on any natal planet, you’re not being punished, you’re being rebuilt.

Pluto didn’t just change my circumstances, it changed my identity. I'm not the person who opened that shop, I’m not the person who lived in that house, and I'm not the person who measured safety by predictability. I’m someone completely new now, someone who knows how to start again, burn it down, trust the unknown and follow the visceral pull toward a life that feels like freedom. My advice? Let go and trust the universe. It knows what it’s doing.
